Afrika Tha Poet is from Nashville, Tn. He started writing at the age of fourteen and decided poetry, music, and writing was his passion. Afrika’s art is a platform to express his experience in this world and record his observations of life. His style is unique and seeks to engage the audience with graphic words and vibration sounds. He seeks to inspire people to make a change on the inside maintaining inner peace by healing from dark moments in life. The poet sees no creative limits and is bound to create anything that can connect to the people. He has performed his most creative spoken word pieces at some well-known places in Nashville, TN. His first performance was at the Frist Center and from there he went on to perform at the TPAC theater and Tennessee State University. Growing up he performed at concerts and spoken word competitions in Texas and Tennessee. Afrika Tha Poet has a second alter ego and his name is Gumbo which goes in-depth creatively rapping and singing about the unknown. His goal is to sing the truth to people and have them realize the situations happening in the black community and the effects of slavery trapped in the African American mind today. Through his music and poetry sparking a fire in the people is most important because it is that same fire and rage of emotion he channels into his art platform.
Afrika Tha Poet published his first poetry book in 2018 called the Retribution of Afrika. This poetry book explains his struggle with maintaining spiritual balance within himself and what he has witnessed beyond the veil. The veil is what keeps the spiritual and physical world separated, but he has the gift to see the unseen and sees the truth in it. This made him fear life on earth and the reality of it. The moment he realized the truth about the world and life he lost balance and became immune to the darkness he fell in a state of mind that led him on a lonely path. In the poem Sogg, he sings as his inner demon becoming spiritually aware of the wrong with his surroundings and the danger that followed him. The philosophy of Afrika Tha Poet comes from ancient Kemet. A belief that he is an infinite being having a human experience. He seeks that comfort of constellation because to him in spirit he is truly alive. In the poem Queen, he is referring to the love of a special person keeping him sane on his journey and seeing true beauty in life from the eyes of love and close friendship. The poetry book is based off his true feeling revealing his darkness to the word.
Afrika Tha Poet genre of music is shadow music. Music is vibrations and a form of expressions of what is felt on the inside. Shadow music deprived of his want to leave earth and live in the stars. Instead of dwelling in the same mindset he decided to learn more of his spirituality. He began by reading books such as the Medu-Neter Vol. The Great Oracle of Tehuti and the Egyptian System of Spiritual Cultivation and many more books. This allowed him to understand what he was going through and that was a spiritual awakening. Afrika Tha Poet began to meditate and heal his chakras, etc. His first single Fame was released in Asia and in the United States. The song Fame was picked up by two independent radio stations and one of them was Jamsphere Rock Radio. He would soon to go on and release his second single Enemy in 2018 in Asia and in the United States. The artist then concentrated on more shadow music producing songs like Alien, Paranoid, Het-Heru and collaborating with his friend Codeine on the song called Sekhmet. The edged and slammed sound allows the listener to go into a trance using different forms of vibrations and lyrics, His music is about self and balancing the spirit within. His music is full of energy and can cause the person to express wild behavior wild listening to it. In his music, he strives to be unique and different and create the abnormal hoping to connect with the listener. The music reflects his personal life and his passion to sustain inner peace. In his lyrics, he becomes infatuated with death because he believes true power comes after death. The song Godfather on SoundCloud he mentions how the trance of the music will have you out the body and traveling through the astral. This aspect of shadow music takes the listener to a different realm. This can be lived by listening to the songs Sekhmet, Paranoid, Enemy, and Alien. The music made are ritual songs as well. Sekhmet is a ritual defeating the negative energies within and in the atmosphere. Paranoid expresses the true feeling of being paranoid in an environment and having a feeling of premonition. This comes from Afrika Tha Poet growing up and living in rough areas of the south. Het-Heru summons the positives energies in the atmosphere and teaches the listener self-love. The feminine energy is important for inner peace and inner healing. In his music, the Poet is very competitive and will slaughter anyone in his path because he holds his craft to heart and seeks to be the best. Afrika Tha Poet is currently awaiting his new single called Heru to be released to the world. The song is about the vivid spirituality of his spirit in the shadows and the struggles of African Americans. The song will be released on the radio, iTunes, and overseas. This is his third official release from Gi-records and plans on to release more music soon.
